What are your hours of operation? What are the shifts?
We are a 365 day, 24 hours a day long term care facility. The shifts are 12 hours, however; the hours vary depending on the Department.
What is the rate of pay?
The rate of pay is dependent on your qualifications. Each job classification is subject to a probationary rate and a regular rate of pay as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
Are you unionized?
Glen Haven Manor has two unions. The Nova Scotia Nurses Union (NSNU) that is representative of the Registered Nurses (RN’s) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN’s). The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is representative of Dietary Workers, Environmental Services Workers, Cooks, Laundry Services Workers, Maintenance Workers, Recreation Services Workers, Physiotherapy Assistants, PCW’s and CCA’s.
Do you offer pension and benefits?
Yes. To be eligible for pension and benefits you must be successful in receiving at minimum a 0.4 FTE for medical and 0.5 FTE for pension. In lieu of pension and benefits, Casual employees are compensated as per their Collective Agreement.
Should I apply, even if I don’t have the specified experience?
For each job posting there is an outline of requirements that are described as mandatory or preferred. At a minimum before applying one should meet the mandatory requirements, or be in the process of acquiring the same.
When applying for casual work, what is the expectation for availability?
At a minimum a casual employee is expected to be available for a minimum of 20 hours per week.
When can I expect to hear from you?
Typical return response can be expected between 1 to 3 weeks for candidates who have successfully met the criteria for application.
