Description: Reporting to the Registered Nurse, the LPN is responsible for the physical assessment of residents and the administration of medications and treatments to residents.
Responsibilities:
- The LPN oversees the work of CCAs and demonstrates leadership and guidance in response to their concerns and recommendations regarding the care residents receive while creating a home like welcoming environment for residents.
- The LPN is responsible to communicate with the RN, Physician and other service providers and family with respect to the care needs of residents. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining and upgrading their knowledge to ensure therapeutic care is provided to residents adhering to therapeutic standards and achieving the goals identified in care plans of residents.
- The LPN is responsible to ensure the policies of the facility are adhered to including the documentation of actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs of residents.
- This position requires a person who is a team player who is willing to assist where and how needed to ensure the quality-of-care residents receive.
- This position does require shift work.
Qualifications:
- A graduate from an approved school of Nursing and Registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Nova Scotia is required. Preference will be given to persons with a Gerontology Certification, long term care experience, AZ training and CPR Certification.
- Core Competencies:
- Knowledge of medications, their uses, side effects and contra indications is expected. Ability to work in a demanding and high activity level situation is necessary. The ability to communicate with and show compassion for persons with dementia is critical. The incumbent will be required to possess organizational skills to manage their own workload and to assist others. The ability to make critical decisions in a timely fashion is required. Knowledge of diseases affecting the elderly is important.
