The leadership team at Glen Haven Manor wishes to thank our residents, their families and our entire care team for pulling together in response to the water main break inside our building on Tuesday evening, January 14th.
When the break occurred our team immediately worked together to contact the New Glasgow Fire Department, Emergency Health Services and additional supports including the Town of New Glasgow, the Province and local partners. Considerable training and practice over many years allowed our care team to meet the unexpected and potentially dangerous situation with focus and action, ensuring the safety, comfort, and wellbeing of all our residents.
We are beyond proud of and grateful to our care team for meeting this moment so effectively.
Engineers and other partners were on site within hours, to begin extensive fact-finding efforts. With their help we will determine what happened and why. We will effectively repair the water main and impacted areas. While speed is important, doing this work correctly is paramount. The long-term safety of residents, care providers and guests are our primary focus.
The following are key updates that may impact your next visit;
Cautiously use the main entrance only – it is accepting all visitors and is temporarily serving as a loading dock and receiving desk. Please cautiously use the main entrance only.
Keep closed doors closed – Some residents are in new surroundings and need all our help to keep themselves safe. You can help by keeping closed doors closed.
Space is short – room visits only – Our common spaces are temporarily serving residents while some residents are sharing rooms as well. Plan for a room visit only.
Avoid bringing personal belongings – now is not a helpful time to bring more clothing, plants, decorations. Please avoid bringing personal belongings.
Please mind the noise – given that we are trying to resume normal operations as quickly as possible, the noise levels will be elevated while work is being done. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
At this time we wish to thank our residents, care providers, first responders as well as our local and Provincial partners for their support, assistance and patience too. Over the next several weeks, we will be working diligently to reach our normal operational status while ensuring the comfort and safety of our residents are prioritized.
Sincerely,
Glen Haven Manor Leadership
